Abstract:
In the context of Sanskrit poetics, Alankara (figures of speech) and Rasa (aesthetic experience) are key elements that shape the beauty and emotional impact of literary works. This paper explores the concept of Bhakti Rasa (the aesthetic of devotion) through the lens of Alankara, focusing particularly on the metaphors and imagery associated with the "bright blue gem" (Ujjvala Neelamani). In classical Sanskrit literature, such metaphors are often used to evoke the purity, brilliance, and transcendence of divine love. The Alankaras employed in these expressions create a multidimensional experience, combining visual, emotional, and spiritual elements to deepen the devotional sentiment. These poetic devices enhance the reader's connection to the divine through Bhakti (devotion). The use of Alankara facilitates a vivid portrayal of the devotee's inner journey, allowing the emotional intensity of Rasa to be fully realized. The "bright blue gem" serves as a symbol of spiritual illumination and the ultimate union with the divine, which is central to Bhakti poetry. Ultimately, the synthesis of Alankara and Rasa in these works fosters an immersive experience of devotion, turning the abstract into something tangible and deeply felt.
